Android Camera2 API promises to revolution digital imaging on smartphones or altogether with advanced capture and processing capabilities that have never been accessible to third party applications before.
Some of what becomes possible is manual controls, computational photography, RAW #DNG capture, full control over video recording, custom image processing. Limits are few.
Here's an analysis on how much of this new API is supported by the #Lollipop devices released during #MWC15 , including the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 flagships.

Camera2 API on MWC 2015 devices: Galaxy S6, HTC One M9 and more Lollipop devices
Since Google announced Android 5 Lollipop at Google I/O 2014, mobile photography and video enthusiasts are hoping for a sizable upgrade of their smartphone’s camera capabilities. History The histor…
Great article. Those hammering to see Camera2-api implemented like right now on the OnePlus should consider :"One thing we can be certain is that in case RAW capture was working, the DNG files written via Android’s new DngCreator would be, in the current state, unusable without some serious calibration work and hacking."
+Jeff Mudrick on the Galaxy S6 exhibited at #MWC15, DNG written would be unusable because of the missing color profile and other bogus metadata.
It doesn't mean the same applies for OnePlus.
As I made the RAW profiling for +Cyanogen present in DNG generated by their proprietary camera application, it's certain they have already that part alright.
Good to know your good work can be built upon Francois.
+Jeff Mudrick DngCreator is rather limited however, missing half of what makes DNG color profiles.
Nice writing, congrats! I hope manufacturers will support the new API sooner or later…
Just a few minor issues I may have found in the article when reading:
-"Android 5.0.1 API level 11." – you mean level 21? 🙂
-"which was brought to our attention on Google+." – this link gives "This post could not be found." to me
+Marton Varga awesome, you're a very attentive reader 🙂
I reformulated and changed the first link as its author deleted the post (which makes sense now!) and 21 indeed!
Thank you very much.
this mean something REAL for the new API?
