From a quick look it now seem like videos are upscaled using a basic Bilinear interpolation.
This is still poor compared to Bicubic, Lancoz or even better interpolation as provided by native hardware video surfaces on most chipsets but at least it's not completely insulting like it was before.
Note: tested with YouTube 5.5.27 on Nexus 7 (2013) 4.4.2
+François Simond So obviously 5.5.27 is working for you.. Wish I could say the same. I went to 5.5.26 then to 5.5.27 and it's dead in the water..
the god damn app wont even open on my nexus 5 anymore! and its to late to go downstairs and get my nexus 7 2013 to try it out )-: #AllMyProblemsAreFirstWorldProblemsBecauseILiveInTheFirstWorldAndStuffLikeThat
Edit: working now
Same for me on my n5
Guys, I went into the apps menu and uninstalled updates. I'm back to the pre-update build, but it's working. (On my N5)
Just found out adaway xposed module kills the new YouTube.
+Daves Williams probably my issue then.. I think I'll stick with the old YouTube & no ads until that gets sorted out.. New Youtube update isn't worth dealing with ads IMHO.
Because blocking ads doesn't cut off many YouTubers revenue stream, right?
Yeah, same on my N4, finally. So all of this has to do with the new ways of interacting with the app?
